Henry Morris, of Egbert, first Reeve in Essa Township (buried here in 1888) deeded this property for a cemetery in 1887. His grandson, Henry A. Morris, who drowned in the Nottawasaga River was buried here a year prior to the establishment of this cemetery. James K. Morris, son of Henry, deeded the adjacent property east of the cemetery for Egbert Methodist Church. The church was built by James Jerrett in 1887. First minister was Rev. Thomas Campbell. After Church union in 1925, it became a Member of Simcoe Presbytery of the United Church of Canada. The closing service was held in the fall of 1962 by the last minister Rev. Leonard Warr.
