The City of Orillia takes its environmental stewardship role seriously. The City's Environmental Services department oversees the operation of the City's only waste diversion site (landfill) and is involved on many fronts in the ongoing and innovative efforts to keep materials out of the landfill. These efforts include an award-winning recycling program, a green bin program, tire recycling, household hazardous waste depot, electronics recycling, re-use programs and various other initiatives. In addition, the City has instituted an anti-idling by-law, has a boulevard planting program, a pollution prevention program, and strives to improve its water efficiency.
