The original land and home stood on ``8 Mile Point`` named so because of its 8 mile proximity to City Hall. The Leigh family farmed and logged the area for many years and many logs still remain in the shallow bay making it ideal for bass fishing. Sadly the home burned down in 1935 whereby the point was divided into lots and sold to build cottages and homes. H. Leigh went on to build a small summer store, ``Carthew Bay General Store``, which included living quarters above it in 1952. The family continued to run the store for many years and to this day long time residents recall the days the days of soda fountains and hand scooped ice-cream....soon to return in 2014! Years later, with the addition of many more permanent residents to the area, the store became a year round establishment
