Elora Fergus Unitarian Universalist Church

edit this listing
Prior to 1994, Unitarians in Centre Wellington had to travel to congregations in Guelph or Waterloo to attend a Unitarian service. But in the spring of that year, several families with previous Unitarian connections organized services together. By 1995 they were meeting weekly at the Victoria Park Centre. The momentum continued with help from our nearby churches and the wider denomination. By the year 2000, we had grown to 30 members and that fall we became chartered as a full-fledged congregation, affiliated with the Canadian Unitarian Council (CUC). We are still a young and relatively fresh and new congregation, lay-lead with invited Unitarian or outside speakers to create services that reflect our diversity in belief, spirituality, social action, from being challenged to being nurtured. We now have two lay-chaplains who are licensed to perform weddings, memorial services, child dedications and other meaningful rites of passage.
